Saturday w/ my BFF'S

Susiane got tickets to attend the General Relief Society Conference and invited Alithie and I. We really haven't hung out alone since we got married so it was nice to spend some time together.







My sister came over on Sunday after a 2-day sleep over with friends. She got stung by a bee and none of the adults from her supposed friends house even bothered to call us. Who does that? Siloni could bearly walk because her foot was so swollen. I'm anti-sleep over, my kids will probably hate me for that ( I know I hated that my dad never let me sleep over my friends house either!) but the world is so corrupt now days, I really don't trust anyone but my immediate family members.



We got her some Benadryl cream and pills to help with the itching and swelling.

Family Photo SNEAK PEEK!

My mom is usually all small talk when it comes to talking to me (... I guess I'm too strong headed and blunt for her to want to talk to me. I'm a little too fiapoto for her sometimes. Lately I've tried to make more of our usually short conversations by updating her on Derek's progress on medical school applications, it's starting to sink in that we may be possibly moving far far away for two to four long years (hopefully she'll have a couple grandchildren by the time we return). When I suggested family photos my mom agreed that it would be a good idea since my family hasn't taken family photos since before my mission in 2003.
I found our photographer on KSL, I know my family doesn't like to spend much on things like photos so I tried to go cheap. My friend Molly moved away so I couldn't call her up (she probably would have gave me a deal and I always love how our pictures turn out, she took my pre-wedding and wedding pictures). I wasn't too satisfied with the way I look (but i'm to blame for that), the family pics were o.k, she didn't really know how to organize us or get the kids or our puppy to look at her. I guess we were overwhelming ( I noticed she raised her prices after our family). I did however love the pics of my brother's family, especially my nephews but it's really not hard to take pictures of super cute kids. I don't mean to sound like a downer, I just have high expectations of photographers (Molly set the standard pretty high).

Roommie Reunion

On Saturday after our family pictures, we met up with Rachael and Brad, they just moved back from Alaska and were in SLC for the weekend. Susiane and Jon came over as well and we just hung out and caught up on life. We played the game Catch Phrase and it was so hilarious, we’re all pretty much newly married (Rachael & Brad being the most recent this year in February) and our husbands haven’t really gotten to know each other well yet. Catch Phrase is the perfect icebreaker; the guys took the lead and didn’t even give in a little to let us win, they won all three times. Here’s a few snapshots of our fun times.

Hanging out with my old roomies got me thinking about our fun times in good ole’ Rexburg, Idaho. I pretty much grew up together with Susiane; thankfully she decided to go to Ricks so I had no drama (like other’s often do) finding a great roommate. Susiane and I met Rachael our freshman year in our ghetto-but-large apartment Regent Village. I ran into Rachael (who at the time very timid) in the laundry room, she immediately apologized for having taken out my load of laundry. I didn’t mind, I shrugged and I responded “I would have done the same thing if I had been waiting.” Rachael lived in the apartment above us and after getting better acquainted with she confessed to calling her mom the night she met me. She frantically told her mother that two brown girls lived in the apartment below her, her mother reassured her that if she was nice to us, we’d be nice to her. Luckily she listened to her moms counsel; we’ve become the best of friends! I later visited Soda Springs, Idaho where Rachael is originally from, I quickly realized why she reacted the way she did when we me, there was no color out there whatsoever!


I have a ton of pictures with Rachael and Susiane, when I say ‘a ton’, I mean I have more pictures with them than I do with my own family members. I thought I’d include some of my favorite pictures from our college days. I’m so glad I left home to go to college, it was so much fun. Rexburg wasn’t always the most entertaining place to live but we made our own fun as you can see by the pictures. I also have some video footage that is super embarrassing, once I get the motivation to figure out how to put it on my blog, I will.

Yes, we ate this burger but we split it up in to four pieces. This restaurant had pictures throughout it of past customers who actually ate the whole burger. Becca lives back in her hometown Kentucky, we still visit with her once a year when she comes down to visit her in-laws.




Every Monday night after our ward FHE we had our “Tribal Meetings” our objective was to pamper ourselves which included painting our nails, waxing, plucking and face masks. I have worse pictures of when Susiane and I discovered that waxing / plucking (yes we plucked the excess hair that wasn’t removed by the wax) our pits awarded great results especially since we danced for the Polynesian Club and our pits were so musky looking from shaving so much (you would understand if you had dark hair and lighter skin). I didn’t want to embarrass ourselves Susiane so I decided not to include that picture.

Dropped my husband off to get his hair cut and went to my weight watcher meeting
Got an oil change
Cleaned up Skofeild's crap, that's how he rewards me after I feed him! (I humanize our pet too much, I know)
Left my keys in the key insert of the car door. Thank goodness a friendly driver made it a point to get our attention to tell us about it. By then we had been driving 80 MPH past Ogden.
Tried to get my whole family to a photo shoot on time but that never happens!
Bruised my back when I tried to jump on the tree for a cool pose
Returned home on time from our family pics for my x-roommie get together, the Huntsman's just moved back from Alaska

MED SCHOOL UPDATE

My husband has submitted his Primary Applications to Medical School and now 7 weeks later we're finally recieveing invitations to submit Secondary Applications. So far we have received requests from the following schools:

Lincoln Memorial University -Debusk, Tennesee
Pacific NorthWest University -Yakima, Washington* (top choice, wait-listed last year)
Rocky Vista University- Parker, Colorado
Des Moines University-Des Moines, Iowa
Arizona College of MidWestern University-Glendale, Arizona
Edward Via Virgina-Blacksburg, Virgina

We are still waiting to hear back from about 5 more schools. We're very excited and we will be happy to go anywhere we are accepted. I'm would prefer to go to WA because we have family there and it's not too hot or too cold. I'll be happy to go anywhere I can find a job since the economy is supposedly pretty bad in some areas of the US.
As of now we're just writing alot of essays. Pray for us, we need all the help we can get.

Summary of our Summer

My sister's visited for the summer from Georgia, we were so excited to catch up. Nia is sooooo tall, she's 6'0 and 108 lbs...and I thought it was hard to find a guy to marry that was taller than me, good luck Nia!


Jenny's wedding, we met in Panama. I had to take an emergency trip there when I lived in Costa Rica so that I could renew my Visa (some guideline they have for foreigners that stay in the country over 150 days). Jenny and her family let me stay and visit for a whole week. I loved it there, the shopping was amazing. I'm still biased toward Costa Rica, Costa Rica is a more beautiful country.

Our first annual camp trip was by far the highlight of our summer. It was the first time we ever rode 4 wheelers. We camped at a secluded camp site in Manti, it was only a 3-day trip but next year we plan to camp out longer. We laughed so much during that trip, when we were 4 wheeling Simi was adventurous and got stuck in some standing water, gross! Doesn't the snapshot of his feet look like something from CSI? We spent one of the days on a lake where my sisters got so frustrated with my little brother that they jumped off the boat and walked around the whole lake! Next year we plan to have more family so we're so excited.

Celebration of our 1st year being MARRIED!


I can' t believe it's already been a year! I've heard from several people that the first year of marriage is the hardest, that wasn't the case for me (Derek agrees). It was by far the best year in my life, I'm happy, in love and blessed to have such a great husband.

For most of the summer we just hung out with my family. The benefits of hanging out with my fam is free laundry (or we can spend 25 cents for every 6 minutes for the dryer at our apartment), free food, free activities and fun times with our nephews.





We're pretty much do the standard, if we're not with family we're at the Gateway window shopping, we're watching movies or walking our puppy Skofeild...teaching new tricks to Skofeild...cooking Skofeild meals, we really do need to get out more.
